Stormwater

Design a wet pond and route storms through its outlet, end to end.

Pond Studio reads your pond outline (DGN, DXF or shapefile), builds the grading with safety and aquatic benches, computes stage-storage, then sizes the riser orifice, weir and culvert until the 1-year and 10-year discharge limits are met with 100-year freeboard. Rainfall comes from NOAA Atlas 14 at the pond location.

Pond Studio

How it works

  1. Upload the pond outline and enter the drainage data.
  2. Set the allowable discharges.
  3. Download the design summary and shapefiles.

What goes in, what comes out

You provide

  • Pond polygon .dgn / .dxf / .shp + .shx + .dbf + .prj
A single closed polygon defining the pond footprint. DGN V7 and DXF closed polylines are read directly via OGR. Shapefile sets must include the .prj (or you can rely on the EPSG you enter).
  • DOT Scale Factor number
Survey-to-grid divisor. Leave at 1.0 if your CAD file is in real-world coordinates.
  • Project EPSG (US Feet) number
Projected coordinate system used for area / volume math. Pick from the StatePlane quick-pick or type any US-feet EPSG code.
  • Pond geometry numbers
Top contour elevation, internal slope (Z:1), BMP depth, water-quality volume (cf), culvert length + diameter (ft).
  • BMP + outside drainage numbers
Tc (hr), weighted CN, area (ac) for the BMP CDA and for any area that bypasses the BMP straight to the outfall.
  • Allowable peak discharges numbers (cfs)
1-yr (channel protection) and 10-yr (flood protection) allowable Q at the outfall.
  • Rainfall auto / manual
Auto mode pulls 24-hr depths (1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100-yr) from NOAA Atlas-14 PFDS at the pond centroid and picks the NRCS storm curve (I / IA / II / III) per TR-55 Appendix B. Manual mode lets you override every depth and the storm type — required for sites outside the Atlas-14 footprint.

You get

  • design_summary.txt .txt
Plain-text engineer-readable summary: outfall ID, project CRS, normal pool elev, 10-yr / 100-yr WSE, freeboard, total storage, converged orifice diameter + weir length, peak discharges vs allowables, and the full input config.
  • design_summary.json .json
Same data as the text summary in machine-readable form, including the full stage-storage curve, the rainfall metadata, and a converged flag.
  • Gpond shapefile set .shp
Final pond grading polygon set with a 'Contour' attribute on every ring — outer pond shell + inner aquatic safety bench. Drop into your CAD or GIS to draft the contour plan.
  • process_log.txt .txt
Full step-by-step engine log: rainfall lookup, grading iterations, every routing sweep step. First place to look if the design didn't converge.
